I've decided that begging is a form of talking back and complaining. When my children are not satisfied with the laws I lay down as the matron of the household, the whining sounds like this..."can I just have ONE more piece of candy? ONE more show, momma,
PLEASE!?!".
On those days when I am pre-PMS, PMS or exhausted as a result of past-PMS, I tend to have a less then rapid response to these pleadings and often feel mowed over and overstimulated after about 8 seconds into the verbal assaults. As a result, when certain realizations hit me, like the new definition of begging did today, I struggle with feeling miffed and taken advantage of.....And then my poor children are confused as their tongue tied, glassy eyed mother suddenly turns on them in that I'm-gonna-whip-this-place-and-these-smart-mouthed-children-into-shape mode.
So tonight, as sweet Hannah was trying to process my rapid firing of commands and admonishment ("YOU KNOW that begging is a form of talking back and I'm not gonna let you speak to me that way...I SAID, you may have cheese or banana. Now take your pick and stop complaining..."), she got mad at me as I was probably less then patient and yet, she knew she had egged me on. So I climbed into bed with her tonight, hoping she'll snuggle anyway and there was only a moment of silence...
Hannah: Knock, Knock...
me: (Sweet!! she's making peace in her own little way....lets see where this goes.) WHO's There??
H: Whine-y Hannah
me: Whine-y Hannah who?!
H: Whine-y Hannah who doesn't want to talk to you!
(My turn)
Me: knock, Knock...
H: Who's there?
Me: Mean Ole Momma...
H: (giggles) Mean Ole Momma WHO?!
Me: Mean ole momma who LOVES YOU!!! (tickles, giggles and thank you, Jesus, for peace!)
